BVP- Vocational Training Centre (Knitwear)

(Set up under CSR Initiative of NSIC)

Ludhiana is hub of industries especially in the field of hosiery industry. There are more than 15000 big, medium & small scale hosiery units in and around Ludhiana and 4 to 5 lac skilled, semi skilled and unskilled labour is employed directly or indirectly in this industry. Annual turnover of the hosiery industries is around 4 thousands crore per year.

In view of the same, survey has been carried out/conducted by our team and found hosiery units are facing manpower problems due to lack of availability of that skilled/semi-skilled manpower, due to the fact that earlier maximum manpower was from Bihar and due to implementation of NAREGA, maximum labour had shifted to their home towns in Bihar.

In order to uplift the weaker section of the area socially and economically as well as to help the un-employed persons of the area, it has been felt that there is a requirement of the training center where people will get training on the machines and get employment and self-employment opportunities. At presently there is no such center in the area to help such people/persons to generate employment and self employment opportunities at the same time fulfill the requirement of Hosiery Industry of the area.

NSIC has came forward to establish Vocational Training Centre (Knitwear) in co-ordination with Bharat Vikas Parishad Charitable Trust Punjab at 100-C, Rishi Nagar, Ludhiana. Initially it is proposed that following machines will be installed to provide training to the unemployed youth/ladies/differently abled persons of the area with tentative pass out trainees of appx. 10 nos per month.

  1. 6 Needles, 12 Head Computer Embroidery Machine.
  2. Semi Auto Flat Knitting Machine.
  3. Overlock Machine

This training centre will go a long way to in fulfilling the needs of people of the area.

Besides the above project, NSIC has been organizing FREE Artificial Limb Distribution Camps in association with Bharat Vikas Parishad Charitable Trust Punjab for providing aids & appliances to the differently abled persons in the District of Ludhiana, Jalandhar & Hoshiarpur for the last two years. So far 846 aids & appliances have been provided to 766 differently abled persons through the camps held during the year 2012-2013 & 2013-2014. They wish to continue their resolve to help the needy persons to stand on their feet and earn there lively hood gracefully.
